JOIN OUR BOARD OF DIRECTORS!

ABOUT THE ROLE

Ballet and Books is seeking passionate and committed individuals to join our Board of Directors for a three-year term. We are especially looking for professionals with expertise in one or more of the following areas:

​

  • Law (particularly nonprofit law and governance)

  • Nonprofit Management

  • Pediatric Medicine / Public Health / Child Advocacy

  • Education Leadership (including educators, curriculum designers, and academic administrators)

  • Dance / Arts Engagement / Performing Arts Education

  • Marketing/PR/Creative Branding and Communications

WHY YOU SHOULD JOIN

This is  a unique opportunity to apply your professional skills to a mission-driven, youth-centered organization committed to educational and social equity. Board members play an active role in strategic planning, compliance, fundraising, and organizational development. You will be joining a dedicated and collaborative team helping to shape the future of an innovative and growing national organization. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Provide guidance in your area of expertise—whether legal, medical, educational, nonprofit, dance or communications

  • Attend and participate in two virtual board meetings per year (January and June)

  • All experiences are virtual with opportunities to engage in person at our programs across the US

  • ​​Serve on at least one committee and participate in two committee meetings annually, in addition to the biannual full board meetings

  • Support strategic planning, resource development, and sustainability efforts

  • Act as an ambassador for Ballet and Books, helping to expand our visibility and partnerships

  • Stay informed about organizational updates and contribute to long-term visioning

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A demonstrated passion for educational equity and the arts

  • A collaborative mindset and willingness to serve as a thought partner

  • One or more of the following:

  • J.D. or legal training in nonprofit law

  • M.D.,  or pediatric/public health expertise

  • Background in education, curriculum development, or university leadership

  • Experience in nonprofit governance, operations, or management

  • Experience in dance instruction, performance, or arts engagement

COMMITMENT TO GIVING

Ballet and Books has a “give or get” policy of $2,000 annually. We encourage each board member to make a personally meaningful contribution and to help raise additional funds through their networks. If a board member is unable to contribute the full amount directly, they are encouraged to fulfill this commitment through fundraising efforts, sponsorships, or other in-kind support.
